Very curious if these are of the same sound quality. Thanks!** A: As I dimly recall, there really is/was no Sony MDR-W08L to compare with these. Over the decades, the Sony headphones kept being manufactured further and further from Japan (sort of like WWII in reverse ;-), and I don’t think the moves improved quality. As far as these headphones are concerned, I've been using these while exercising since the Sonys disappeared, and I have no complaints. IMHO, perfectly acceptable audio quality, reasonably rugged, and they don't seem to mind being rinsed. AFAIK, these Koss KPH14 headphones are the only quality “side firing” headphones made. Unless things have changed, you have no other choice. At one time there were two Chinese copies available. The one I tried was of extremely low quality in every possible way -- and about twice the price of these. I never tried the other clone, nor do I intend to. **Q: What is "side firing"?** A: The ear piece has a speaker stat is flat and just sets slightly inside the ear. It points forward and allow the sound to be bounced back into the ear. Not dependent on a bud jammed into your ear canal. Much more comfortable for people with small ear canals or who dislike/can't wear ear buds. I basically use them every day and I am really pleased with the sound quality. They are not noise canceling, but they aren’t supposed to be. This allows you to hear what’s going on around you (like if you’re outside or at the gym). Right out of the box they’re a little tight and can hurt your ears if worn for a long time. I discovered a little trick…I heat up about 3/4 inch or so of water in a bowl in the microwave for a few minutes. Take the hot water out of the microwave and let the very top part of the headband sit in the hot water for a few minutes to soften up the plastic a little bit. Be super careful not to let the earbud part, plug or wire get wet. Once the top of the headband is fairly warm, put them on as if you were using them for several minutes until they cool off a bit. The plastic hardens right back up strong as ever but now you have a custom fit. I’ve done this with 2 sets of these earbuds and it’s worked great both times. I looked for the perfect earbuds for almost 10 years and I love everything about these earbuds!
