## Description

The two classic RPGs in this compilation not only represent hours upon hours of story, character, and action, they also present the background for two recent bestselling, critically hailed games: Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Cross . With all the different names for the original 1991 release of the first title in this compilation ( Final Fantasy IV in Japan, Final Fantasy II in the U.S.), role-players new to the game may get confused. Make no mistake, though: Final Fantasy Chronicles marks the first time this pivotal installment of the cherished game series has ever been available on the PlayStation. In Final Fantasy IV , players take on the role of Cecil, a loyal captain who questions the orders of his king, and for it is sent to slay a mysterious beast in a nearby valley. In Chrono Trigger , Chrono must follow princess Marle's teleportation through time and locate her before an intergalactic parasite arrives to destroy the world. The original game, also on the PlayStation for the first time, was one of the first nonlinear role-playing games. The decisions that players make during the game will point them toward one of more than a dozen possible endings. These new versions retain the authentic Japanese SNES stories and characters while updating their graphics and adding new full-motion video sequences and other features. This old school compilation from Square includes "Final Fantasy IV" (known as "FF2" as a 1991 US SNES release which introduced the Active Time Battle system) and "Chrono Trigger" (1995's precursor to the wildly popular "Chrono Cross").Format: PSX Genre: RPG (VG)/ Rating: T - Teen UPC: 662248901015 Manufacturer No: 9796

Review: One of the Best Games Ever - I haven't actually played this product yet, as it is a Christmas gift. However, I've been playing Chrono Trigger (through the use of emulators and ROMs) for over a decade. It is without a doubt one of the best games ever created. Even though its graphics are no where near as amazing as the games of today, its story and complexity are of a quality that is rarely, if ever, equaled. It has an endless amount of replay value given the multiple endings (11 or 12 I believe) and various side quests. This version of the game also has well-done animated cutscenes that are lacking in the original Super Nintendo version. I have very little experience with the Final Fantasy series although from what I've played, they also seem enjoyable. Even if you're not a fan of Final Fantasy, the combination of the two games is well worth the price since I'd pay even more than this just for the Chrono Trigger game. Note: Since this is a Playstation One game, there is a strong chance that it will not play on Playstation 3 consoles. However, there should be no compatibility issues with the older (and cheaper) Playstation 2 or Playstation One consoles.
Review: FF4 greatly improved, CT slow but still great - I grew up in the Super Nintendo generation, and fondly remember many hours spent both playing Final Fantasy 2 (FF4 in Japan) and Chrono Trigger. Now almost 20 years later, I was thrilled to see them re-released with improvements. The bulk of the improvements go to FF4. Compared to the awkward, almost laughable translations of the original US release, the new version is much more readable, the dialogue more natural, and fills in a lot of backstory that wasn't there (including Kain's past and his allegiance to the King of Baron). Also, the features originally removed from the US release are back in, including Cecil's cool "Dark" attack and some missing spells not there originally. That alone makes it a worthwhile purchase. Chrono Trigger takes a performance hit on the PS1 compared to the SNES, especially when transitioning between battle to normal "walking" mode. This irked me somewhat, but i still like the idea of having a hard-copy of the game as opposed to a strictly digital download, and the game is still good as ever. Considering the cost of playing these games again, I felt it was a worthwhile purchase and didn't regret it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will it play on PS3?**
A: Yes. The PS3 prompts you to create an internal memory card in either PS2 or PS format. I used PS2 format even though it is a PS game. Rebooted the system to make the internal memory card active and it immediately recognized the PS disc and started up normally. Hope it works as good for you.

**Q: Hi! Is this a Green Label Edition or Black Label? (I mean, in case the pic are just for reference)**
A: I received a black label version, make sure the seller STATES that it is an original copy and NOT the dreaded Greatest Hits version before you make a purchase.

**Q: With ff4 on ps3, is it glitchy, and if so, would said glitches make the game unfinishable like with ff2 in ff origins(when played on ps3)?**
A: It isn't that glitchy. I've been taking my time to progress through this game as there are many points were level grinding are a necessity, and I get bored after doing nothing else after a while. I'm up to the sealed cave in the underworld section. whereas the aforementioned flicker and pixelated outline on story progressed cinematics, I've found that the flashes actually help reveal hidden areas in the game, such as the tunnels in the cave of summons.

**Q: Is this the original ff4 from japan, and chrono trigger from the snes just on the ps1?**
A: This seems like the same thing as Final Fantasy 4 for Super Famicom. It is not Final Fantasy 4 Easy Type, it is the standard version. Also, this is a port of Super Nintendo Chrono Trigger, however, some text is changed (mostly in Magus's castle and anything related to Magus). There are short cutscenes. As for the fact that this is a PS1 game, naturally the game has insane amounts of loading times. Every time you enter a battle or the music changes, it has to load. If you want to play Chrono Trigger, I would suggest the Super Nintendo version. If you can read Japanese, the Japanese version is significantly cheaper than the American version.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ FF4 greatly improved, CT slow but still great

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ both great games!!
*by C***B on June 20, 2011*

First of all, a good deal like this shouldnt be passed up. 2 games for 15$ give or take is a must pick up especially when both are classics. Chrono Trigger: Seems like this game is a benchmark for RPG's in general even though there were games before it. Fun to play, multiple endings, and the graphics for its time were great! I cant really say enough about this game or anything negative in fact. Final Fantasy IV: One of my favorites in the series hands down. This version is the harder directly Japanese translated version so it was challenging for me in many ways. I have played other FF's but this one was probably the hardest,(the PS1 version)I think I died at almost every boss except the Mist Dragon at least 2+ times, and the last boss took me 3 tries because I was lucky. The load times are not that bad, about 2-3 secs at most so I disagree with all the picky people saying they ruin the game in any way. Overall I love this game, will play it again in the future, just sad I didnt catch on earlier. Hope you all find this helpful in any way.
