It is a small plush stuffed head that is held in with Velcro. However, my daughter pulls it off and drops it all the time (she’s almost 2). If the smaller pad falls off there’s a hole with the hard side of velcro in it which probably wouldn’t feel good if your child falls asleep. Last summer it was the greatest thing to have on the pad. She calls out "my bunny, I love my bunny" any time she sees it. She has fallen asleep on it once, but for the most part, we got it as something to entertain her for longer bike rides. I also think it would be good in the event of a crash--but hopefully we will never need to find out about that. The bunny is larger than I thought, which is fine. The velcro doesn't quite close at the bottom, but that doesn't seem to affect its performance or appearance at all.
