I use it for a light part of my heavy keyring. It has my ignition keys on it and I detach it so that I don't have heavy keys hanging from my switch. To put it another way I have several rings with a different keys and it's heavy then I have my detachable key ring that is light and that's what I use for my ignition switch and door key **Q: Would this be reliable enough to hold a self defense weapon on the quick release end (i.e. keychain pepper spray, etc.)?** A: Should be the spring is pretty strong on the clip.
