Review: good price; good tech support; takes grreat photos, paricularly outdoors in natural light - Even more thoughts (as of July 13, 2016): I now feel that the problems I have been experiencing the camera had to do with my ineptitude, and that the camera is an excellent product. It takes great outdoor photos. I found the user guide difficult to understand. But, if you call the Nikon tech support 800 number, they will patiently walk you through the steps you need to follow to configure the camera properly. With their help, I am finally finding I can get the camera to work. I am taking great outdoor photos. And, I seem to be doing a lot better with indoor photos. (I live in the city in an apartment with no natural lighting.) The camera is a good product at a good price. The photos I am now taking are super: sharp and stunning. I am glad I did not give up on this product. More thoughts (updated of July 9, 2016): I keep changing my mind about this camera. People have told me: just use you iPhone It takes great photos, probably better ones anyway. Well, I have been using the Coolpix camera again some lately. I find that it takes great outdoor photos in the daytime, actually better than my iPhone does. The Coolpix photos fill up the fame and just plain look better – stunning. The contrast (or whatever you call it) is just right. Where I seem to experiencing trouble taking photos with the Coolpix is indoors. It is undoubtedly a problem of lighting -- I am often getting blurry photos. But outdoors the camera takes great photos. So it seems to be a very good camera. My problem with it seem to be that: --- I am not proficient in photography; -- the instructions seem awfully complicated; the user manual is not much help ******************************************************* My latest thoughts (update of July 3, 2016): I am behind the curve insofar as concerns photography expertise. I've had some trouble using this camera. I'm not sure if the problem is my ineptitude or the camera. I continue to have trouble adjusting settings and figuring out which button or setting to use, plus finding the buttons for settings on the camera. The tech support people at Nikon (they have an 800 number) are eager to assist. But, I still seem to be having trouble figuring out what's what and following directions. I have had the camera for several months now. For me, the settings and/or adjustments that you need to make before taking photos seem awfully complicated. Perhaps all digital cameras are that way nowadays. Sometimes, I get lucky and the camera takes great pictures. I just can't seem to master it. From my earlier review (plus an update to that earlier review; see below): A few tips: -- The user manual that comes with the camera is very brief and doesn’t seem to cover everything. I downloaded the user manual online as a PDF file. It took just a minute to do so. The downloaded user manual is very thorough and clear. -- The tech support that the company provides is excellent. I accessed them by phone. Hardly no wait time. They are patient and helpful. It is easy to take videos; it makes decent ones with just one touch of a button. addendum to my first review: I am adding something to what I wrote above about a month ago. I am not sure about this camera. I am having trouble with photos often being out of focus. I can’t seem to quite correct this. Some (many) but not all of the photos are out of focus. I have called Nikon tech support. The problem seemed to be resolved at first when I followed their instructions, but the problem of out of focus shots returned and persisted. I don't know if it is because of my lack of expertise and/or ineptitude or the camera itself. I am not sure about this product. I just purchased an iPhone and it seems to take better photos. (But, the iPhone doesn’t have a zoom like this one does.) Additional follow up: it seems that the problems with this camera with respect to blurry, out of focus photos may be due, mainly, to poor lighting where I have been taking my photos; also, possibly, my unsteady hand.
Review: This camera is solid :) - I have had this camera for all of two hours, delivered to my office. I have taken pictures around the building, inside and out, light areas and dark, and for a point and shoot, this appears to be an excellent introductory camera coming at a reasonable price. I'm not going to go into the features (or lack thereof) from the other posts but will try to address the concerns I have read. Although the camera is light in weight, it feels pretty solid to my big 'ol man hands. Others have commented on the durability but it is still just plastic, not aircraft grade aluminum, so I feel it will last as long as I don't bang it around or drop it. My old CoolPix used to take five or six seconds to ready itself when powered on but this one is ready almost immediately. It accepted my new PNY class10 64G SDcard and rechargeable NiMH batteries with no errors. I found some really low light areas and the lens sucked in enough light (sans flash) that the area looked well lit in the picture. I was able to zoom to a person more than 100 yards away in a medium lit warehouse, and although I did have to steady the camera on a solid object, it returned a very clear photo for such a long distance. People have complained of noise in their zoomed pics but you just can't steady it yourself at that distance, set it on something or buy a tri/mono pod for $15. At first I thought the auto-focus was acting up but it's been awhile since I used anything other than an iPhone for pictures so I forgot to gently depress the button to get the thing to focus (maybe I'll get around to reading the manual, who am I kidding, no I won't). After that, focus worked perfectly and unless I was moving, photos were very sharp. I tried a short video, appeared to be good quality in office light, sound was good, no complaints. All in all, this is a reasonably priced camera that takes quality pics, is easy to operate, and should serve you well if you don't toss it around. I read the posts from others that had mechanical issues so I intend to fully test it before my trip in a couple weeks but I'm not going to get all bunched up over the camera's limitations because I bought it for what it is. If you want a ton of features and an internal gyro-stabilized mega-lens, then prepare to spend a lot more money, like my wife does.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Probably My Last Camera
*by B***Y on March 27, 2017*

OK, I'm a cranky old man and it took me days to decide on this camera. I searched and read gobs of stuff and pushed the button on this one. Now, this camera comes with an instruction manual or there is one online for free. USB cord and batteries. The manual has all this complicated mumbo-jumbo but I relied on FULL AUTO for my shooting. I set it on auto and went to work taking pics of stuff I needed to document. YOU NEED TO READ THE MANUAL regarding zoom usage and how to let it focus before completely depressing the fire button. I don't see any reason for me to mess with the other controls but I can if I wanna play around. I don't so that takes care of that. The pictures are clear, natural and I couldn't ask for an easier camera to use that takes decent pics. I use the 32 Gig card and the camera comes with a USB cable but it is way too short. Get a 5ft cable from Amazon. It takes 4-AA batteries and I'm not going to get caught-up in proprietary scams. Also, it comes with 4 Chinese Duracells that are working now but I have extras handy with no Chinese lingo. The thing looks like it's made good and will suit me just fine for what simple pics I need. The zoom is super and is clear if you let it focus. When the light turns green fire. I'm only gonna tell you 2 more times. Take about 30 minutes and read the manual and familiarize yourself with the camera controls and how to take great shots. If you have to monkey-around with the controls for each shot you aren't taking advantage of the auto stuff. It's made in China and probably won't last long but the price seems fair compared to all the others I examined. I have not made videos so I can't speak to that. Read the manual and you'll be on your way to simple picture taking. I plug the camera into my computer and the pics are sucked-off onto Windows 10 software and usually defaults to Paint. I can modify the pics if I like. I did not download the Nikon software since there are complaints about removing the stuff if you want to. Hard to uninstall. It's as cheap as I could go and get a cool looking camera that will do the job for me with a minimal learning curve. Sure, you'll need to play around a little but not much. I got right onto the zoom and basic auto settings. READ THE MANUAL!
