The plan was to use the male DB9 side to connect to the equipment, and chop the female connector off and terminate it to a captive screw connector. I typically create my own cabling, but decided against it on this occasion and ultimately purchased this cable. This cable uses stranded 26AWG copper cabling, and does not use standard wire colors. My wire strippers barely could strip the wires because they were too small, and I had to go through hoops to figure out their pinout. This product is listed as an extension, but I would not use it as such. The thin stranded cabling would be very problematic if you extended a DB9 cable over a long distance.
