It required charging and connection to cell prior to working, but once it is charged and connected, it works just as it is intended. I haven't tested the limits of the bluetooth but it can at least go over 40ft. It has great lights that helps the singer feel like they are performing.When turning it off and then on again, it needs time to connect to the phone that is being used for the music.It works great for kids.
