I don't think the JTEC can decode DD+ coming out of the Roku. When I set the Roku to DD+ I get no sound from my surround system fed by the JTEC using the digital optical output. What I have to do is select the 2 channel output from the Roku on the drop down menu and then put my surround system into 5 channel mode which simulates 5 channel from 2 channel. The sound is very good but not DD+. The JTEC works fine decoding other 5.1 formats. **Q: would chromecast works with this device, if chromecast connected to hdmi input, would it delivers audio to the RCA cable?** A: My first gen Chromecast does send audio to the RCA coax outputs, but the sound lacks “Punch”. I assume this is because the voltage leaving the coax outputs is less than ideal to drive an amplifier or receiver, forcing you to turn up the volume to compensate. (The coax cables plugged into a small preamp, then coax cables from the preamp to the amplifier or receiver would solve the issue.) **Q: Does this unit pass the HDMI and allow for the rca to pass the audio to an external amp for added speaker output. We have a 5.1 system and want to create a bi amped system. We want the hdmi output to pass to the tv and the RCA to feed an additional power amp for speakers outside.** A: Be aware, this is something I found out after i bought it and had to return it. The sound passed through to the HDMI OUT is determined by the EDID switch. That switch is NOT ONLY controlling the extracted audio. So if you wanted to pass the original video and audio on to an AV Receiver to drive a multi channel system (5.1, etc.) and TV, you will need to set the switch to TV or 5.1. But if you the extracted audio (from the optical or analog jacks) is then intended for headphones (for example), then the headphones will likely not know what to do with that stream and will give you garbage. For me, my Bose Wearable Speakers chose to use the main L/R channels and dropped everything else, including the center channel of voices. The effort was a big fail **Q: This product doesn't really say it won't recode 5.1 to 2.0 for the RCA analog outputs like other products when set for 2.0. Does it do this?** A: I am using the J-Tech for going into an older Sony Hi-Def 1080p projection television circa 2000, the Hi-Def coming through the AVI jack in the back with audio fed into left and right stereo input jacks, since AVI is video only. I don't believe these input jacks on my Sony are Dolby 5.1, so having Dolby RCA out wouldn't make any sense.
