This story is set after Star Trek: Nemesis. Worf is now "Number One" and LaForge 2nd in command. But we are Riker, Troi (who are now married and have a son) and of course Data. But, Mr. Ward has added a number of new characters to fill the void. I hope that he and other ST writers chose to continue to flesh them out. One of my personal favorites is T’ryssa Chen from engineering.The first two chapters, setting up the ensuing story, do move a bit slowly and possibly could have been a bit more condensed. But, not enough to dock this book a star. However, the tempo picks up when the crew of the Enterprise E comes upon a massive alien ship that has traveled through time, hell bent on destruction.As the story unfolds, the ongoing war sucks the Enterprise and her crew into the middle of the conflict. Each side seemingly reasonable, is caught in a war that they don't know how to stop. Can Picard mediate a lasting peace? Can the Enterprise E withstand this doomsday ship's horrific weapon? Dayton Ward answers these questions and delves into the way of war on a page turning ride. He knows well the voices of the older established characters and makes you want to know even more about the new. And, he can hold his own with any of the Star Trek writers when it comes to penning exciting actions scenes. You won't be disappointed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Star Trek novels are getting back on course to the spirit of Star Trek, finally *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2015* Looks like the Star Trek novels are FINALLY getting back to Star Trek's original mission and spirit--to seek out new life and new civilizations, instead of the politically charged crap they've been churning out the last several years. ST TNG Armageddon's Arrow is a step in the right direction. You have two new species in the same solar system to meet, a doomsday weapon and a little time travel stuff thrown in to make for a good story. It's still a little political but it does so in a Star Trek consistent way. My only complaint was in wanting to know more about the two species they encounter. The focus is on their conflict and the doomsday weapon so much you really don't learn a whole lot about them. Also, Star Trek seems to be stuck in basically rewriting the bad alien with a big gun going to blow up some world story line though arguably in a creative way this time--pretty much the base storyline for every ST movie since the original series movies.
