I have a nine-year-old daughter who normally wears size 10 pants, after reading reviews, I ordered up one size & received the size 12. I do want to preface this with the fact that my daughter is very picky about the clothes she wears & doesn't like anything that's tight, itchy or anything where you can feel a seam. She has been that way her whole life & it's difficult to buy her clothes because of it. So, the pants are tight around the ankles with the foot straps, & even though I could physically pull them up over her ankle, she did not like the fact that they were so tight. She never made it to pulling them all the way up.So, I really can't speak to how they would have fit her, but they just didn't work for us. It's too bad because they're cute pants. Our 6 year daughter is average/ slender build and slightly above average height, with muscular legs and bum from posting, The size 10 is large on the waist and bum with room to grow as hoped, unfortunately the calves are already quite tight. She was frustrated trying to get them on. I went to help and found she was not exaggerating regarding how tight the calves were. They ribbed texture looks nice and works well for entry level shows and classes, but the calves may prevent her from wearing them once she grows into the rest of the pant. Best fit for a very slender child.
