PLEASE HELP!!!!!!** A: it sounds (no pun intended) like you either did not break-in the brakes or have gotten them contaminated with a substance (oil, soap, etc.). you could sand the rotors and pads a bit to try and remove that and then clean with rubbing alcohol. Then google how to “bed in” the brakes. **Q: What is the difference between 160 and 180? My trek came stock with 160.** A: Obviously a diameter of the rotor, 180 front and 160 in the rear is the most common setup on trail and XC bike, also it depends on your wheel size. I would stick with 180f/160r unless you are riding a downhill bike. They were adequate for stopping power on flat terrain. When going down steep rough trails I didn’t feel I had adequate breaking control. Jumping up to the 203mm rotors made a world of difference along with Shimano Ice Tech technology which helps keep overheating down. Don’t feel like the down hills are potential suicide missions any longer.
