They fold up to access the egg collection area an will stay up. I have stubborn hens that will still go in though. **Q: Can these be assembled so the eggs roll out to the back to be accessible from a door on the outside of the coop?** A: I have the two hole version, and we were able to make it work with some minor changes. **Q: What is the demension of each individual box** A: Roughly about 12"x12"x14"deep **Q: What type of nesting pads work best in the 8 hole rollout nest box?** A: I haven't had much luck yet with this. it appears that you don't put anything in the next in order for the egg to roll into the catch basket. I am getting ceramic eggs to see if that entices them to use the boxes. Right now they all lay next to the box in a corner.
