But that is not enough to make them glow very brightly. And it's disappointing to realize that they don't come on until it's really dark outside - so in the summer that's as late as 10pm, and when we've already gone back indoors. And they only brighten for a couple of hours! But they are cheap and still pretty. I have another type of solar lantern that I paid 3 times as much for, and it's that much better - always bright even after several cloudy days, and comes on much sooner and stays bright all night long. We have no street lights in our area, and the moon is not full on the nights the lanterns aren't lighting. I can't figure out what could be wrong. We do have one that has never worked, which I took down yesterday to examine. It's turned on, I checked the battery, I placed the lantern in the direct sun, and it's still not working. I did notice that after only 5 weeks there are already small tears in the fabric. We have had lanterns made by another company (no longer available) in our trees for the past 3 years and never had this problem. Putting these in our trees entails using a very tall ladder, and lots of hard work.
