The EVSE that came with the car only handled 120 volts and took over twenty hours to fully charge from empty. While this EVSE can do that too, for when you only have a 15 amp circuit available, you can also operated it at 240 volts. The car charger seems to limit 120 volt EVSE to 1.1 kW intake, while in 240 volt mode the car allows a 3.5 kW intake. Your car model may be different. For us at 240 volts the rate is more than three times faster, which means we get a full charge overnight.While there are faster and more expensive EVSE's out there this one matches our 20A 12 AWG circuit without stressing the breaker. It don not require using more exotic 10, 8, 6, or even 4 gauge required by some EVSAs. This saved us having to hire an electrician.It will also make a good travel EVSE since it can handle both 120 and 240 volts and can be downshifted to as little and 4 amps for circuit that already have a lot of load on them. Very flexible.The only thing charger that could be improve is a larger screen. While it give lots of useful information I often need my glasses to read the small type, especially in bright sunlight.==================Update 2/5/2020Having used this unit for 6 months without issues, it now will only work at the slowest setting 8A (240v). When I press the mode button nothing changes. Stuck at 8A. Downgrading from 5 to 2 stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great charger, just wish there was a power button for when not in use *by J***H on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 4, 2019* This is a great charger and I used it on my 30 amp outlet on 40 amp mode it automatically adjusts to use the full 30 amps that i have but also gives me the option to charge slower at the other levels also. It also tracks Kwh usage and times the charger so you wake up the next morning knowing how long it took and how much energy was used which is great my only complaint is there isnt really an on or off button so the screen stays on the whole time unless you unplug it which isnt a big deal but i wish i could shut it off completely while not in use instead of having to unplug it to do so. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good EVSE with some important features *by R***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 28, 2019* Bought this for my new Chevy Bolt EV. There were two features that I wanted: 1) both 120 and 240 VAC capacity and 2) able to control max amps from the EVSE.Able to use 120 vac means I can use it even if I’m somewhere that only had 120 vac. It does require the use of an adaptor however, which isn’t included.Being able to control max amps is useful in case I was charging at a RV park or other area where the circuits couldn’t handle the full 240 Vac load. The Bolt allows you to lower max 120 Vac draw but not 240.Overall, it’s been working well. The cord is also longer than some other brands which has been good for my parking situation.
