## Questions & Answers

**Q: How do I get live sparrow out of trap and dispose of it?**
A: In the U.S.A., House Sparrows and Starlings are invasive species and are NOT protected by the Migratory Bird Act, therefore it is perfectly legal to catch and euthanize them. They are both known to kill our native songbirds. House Sparrows will enter a cavity nesting, native songbird's nest, kill the parent songbirds, their babies, and their eggs and will even go so far as to build their nest on top of the dead birds they just killed. For this reason, many people choose to trap and euthanize them.

First, correctly identify that you indeed have caught a House Sparrow, because many wonderful, NATIVE sparrows look a lot like House Sparrows to the untrained eye, especially the females. Buy a bird identification field book or look online to MAKE SURE you have trapped a House Sparrow. Put on a glove, grab the House Sparrow, and put it in a large nylon laundry bag (we prefer one you can't see through). Close the bag quickly and tightly, swing it around several times in one direction, then swing it in the opposite direction against a hard object, like a tree. It usually only takes one whack, and it is usually blood free as it usually breaks their neck or skull. If you have a bird rescue in your area, they would probably love to have your deceased House Sparrows to use for food for their hawks, owls, eagles, falcons, etc. that they are rehabbing. Thank you for helping to save our native cavity-nesting songbirds!

**Q: Where are the instructions?**
A: This item is not worth the money and no instructions. I was only able to trap one bird after one year.

**Q: How do i dispose of live sparrow in trap? how do i get it out ? it is killing my bluebirds and now i’ve trapped it? how do i get it out and get rid of**
A: If you don’t feel up to killing a sparrow with your bare hands, just agitate the bird while in the trap and immediately dip the trap completely in water, the bird will die in about 5 seconds (or less), seems to be the quickest and more humane manner of dispatching them.

**Q: Can you catch starlings with this or just sparrows?**
A: I caught 3 sparrows and 2 snow birds initially. The sparrows learn very quickly and I have since caught none. The snow birds are less savvy and keep getting caught so I have stopped using this trap. A starling is not a ground feeder so much so I would doubt you'll catch them, but who knows?

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works well when used correctly
*by J***Y on August 22, 2022*

First off don't get discouraged, I went almost a full month without getting a single bird in the trap. I tried moving it to a new location, under a bird feeder where there was some food on the ground already. I then put some fresh seed in it and after 2 more days finally got my first bird. The wrong type of bird but it was a start. I have 3 bird feeders. I stopped putting food in 2 of them to see if that might help. I finally got 2 sparrows in 1 day. So that proved to me the trap does work but maybe it's more about how you set it up.I went on to try letting all the bird feeds run out of feed and kept fresh food in the trap. I started getting a few sparrows every few days. I noticed that many times they went in one side and right out the other side. So the opening that is closest to the edge of the cage I put some sticks in the way. They can still get around them if they try but it's not as easy. It seems to cause them to panic a bit and when they turn around they see the opening into the large part of the trap. I started getting about 5 sparrows a day. At the most 8 sparrows in one day.I noticed it started to decline a bit with me just putting food in the trap only. So I started putting a little bit in the feeder above the trap. This seems to work best and the rest of the birds can get some food too. I caught 146 sparrows in 45 days. It seems once you get about 5 birds in the trap it's less likely more enter. I am now only getting about 1-2 a week, also keep in mind the time of the year also matters. From what I hear winter is best but so far early summer was best for me.Hope this helps someone else from what I learned so far.

### ⭐ Don't waste your money
*by R***Y on August 7, 2021*

I bought this several months ago to get rid of sparrows at my feeder and keep them from nesting in my dryer air vents. I have done everything I know about enticing sparrows (favorite food, trap placement, etc.). Even with large, young, in-experienced broods, not even a single sparrow has entered this so called sparrow trap. Upon closer examination, it appears to me birds cannot figure out how to enter the cage due to poor placement of the entrances to the cage. Sparrows use it as a perch! This trap reminds me of a mini version of a lobster trap my dad used to make. This cage is probably more suitable as a crawdad trap! I rigged up a netting trap system using netting material from the hardware store to trap and remove sparrows from my backyard. spent a lot less than this farce of a trap! Don't waste your money as I did.

### ⭐⭐ Useless pos
*by I***L on June 2, 2024*

No sparrows ever entered this poorly designed cage despite every recommendation fo using...every. It does, however, trap chipmunks from time to time.Shop elsewhere for a real trap. This one's useless.
