The pee soaks down to the pad, then wicks up later from the wet carpet fibers. It's a little hard to know it this success was because it was my 3rd go at cleaning the area, or the product. Probably a little of both. Previously, I bought another product made for pee stains. It smelled worse than the pee. A strong scent to cover up other scents to me is not fixing the issue. This has a very nice, mild fragrance that went away as the carpet dried.
