You can unscrew it off and on anytime but might need to add some off n on! This has bits of Teflon and they could get into the oil filter and clog it. Drain plugs are designed to have a gasket and not seal at the threads. This is actually an oil/grease-based material. You can try a little ethanol. However, you should only try a little bit.
