I even shortened the pendulum rod about 4 inches to fit the hole. The clock kit has been holding the perfect time to the minute and has never lost a second! Also the pendulum looks great and never stops! I’m very happy that I chose this kit! **Q: Can you tell me the size of the hands?** A: hour hand 1 1/2" minute and second hands 2" **Q: How far does the pendulum swing from side to side?** A: The center of the pendulum "weight" travels about 2 to 3 inches back and forth. The way it works is the pendulum hangs on a small arm with a permanent magnet on the arm, and the main mechanism has an electro-magnet coil that also doubles as a sensor. You start the pendulum swinging then the sensor triggers a repulsive magnetic burst as the magnet on the small arm passes by, compensating for friction loss and maintaining the swing. As the battery starts to weaken after 6 months or more, the "helper" burst weakens somewhat so the swing width becomes a little smaller. When the battery is close to being discharged, the sensor circuit automatically disconnects to conserve battery life for the actual clock time-keeping. This acts as a signal to replace the single AA battery. My battery is currently getting nears its end of life, causing the pendulum to stop now and then. I can still start it swinging manually and the "helper" circuit still keeps it going, for now. Ordered this unit, was easy to install and works perfectly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice modern battery powered quartz movement to revive a family heirloom wall clock *by R***. on September 7, 2019* I have a German-made pendulum wall clock that my parents bought in the mid 1960's. The original precision mechanical timing and chime movement was never cleaned and the clock had not worked properly for years. A professional cleaning job was estimated to cost at least $100. Instead I replace the mechanical movement with this battery-powered movement. The pendulum is just for "looks" -- the actual time-keeping is done by the quartz crystal inside -- like any modern watch or wall clock. This movement keeps very good time.. The hands provided with this new movement are small and unassuming. You can buy bigger hands at many craft stores, but most of those were too large for my old clock's face. The "hub" connections for the original clock hands are a different style than the modern hands. My solution was to clip off the "hubs" from the original hands, clip off the "points" from the new hands, and then graft the ornamental original hands (minus their hubs) onto the remaining parts of the new hands using some silicone glue. The attached picture shows the result. Per the instructions of the new battery-powered movement, the pendulum will stop swinging when the single AA battery is getting low and in need of replacement. However the clock will continue to keep time in this situation. I chose this movement as I wanted a silent clock.
