OK?** A: I don't think it's necessary; nothing will get into it to taint your coffee, unless you live with an exterminator! :) However, personally, I cover mine with a paper plate, just to be OCD. **Q: Does the coffee come in contact with the plastic** A: The coffee and water will brew inside the food safe and BPA-free brewing container. I just make sure to rinse it well after use and keep it in a plastic baggie in my refrigerator. I don't let the filter sit around any longer than brewing and don't let it touch food or the counter to avoid bacteria transfer. **Q: i am not seeing how much this toddy maker holds...? a liter? more/less?** A: If you follow the directions you use 7 cups of water. The karaf is about the diameter of a 2 liter soda bottle and about 7 inches tall.
