The frame is metal and seems to give more clearance for suspension travel. the plastic is super ridged and very smooth and slippery underneath to prevent hang-ups from obstacles. the steel battery tray is a bonus and can be reversed for front or rear battery mounting. I did not like the instructions (but this hobby always has sucky instructions) and the fact that the front/rear suspension rods and links were not included (had trouble finding the right sizes for the suspension to move freely and pitch the stock axial axles correctly) . I would have gladly paid a little more to get all of the links/rods.
