A bit tricky to find the crank shaft position. There’s two positions where the tool actually fits. One wil feel slightly loose( barely noticeable) and the second one feels tight and crank shaft won’t move. Best way to find the spot for the crankshaft is to plug a stick in the spark plug hole in cylinder one( numbering starts from timing chain towards accessory belts, so right to left. Looking at the engine with the good open. [ accessory belts - 5 4 3 2 1 - timing chain]) mark the stick and watch it as you rotate the crank shaft for the sign. Find the highest point for the sing on the stick that shows that cylinder one is at TDC and start looking for the spot on the crankshaft to plug the tool. I also used a camera to look in the hole for the tool and found the spot quick. You’ll see an indentation trough the hole on the crank. Lock the cams with the tool. Put the chain back. Tighten the sprockets ( I took both out, easier to handle the chain.) 60nm and then 90 degrees more towards the windshield. Also when rotating the crank if you feel that it doesn’t want to move anymore it’s probably the chain getting blocked in the vacuum pump sprocket. Just wiggle the chain around and should all be fine. I had to grind some material away to make these fit the camshaft flats on early 2.5L 5 cylinder VW engines (which spec the same cam lock part number as some FSI engines).
