Review: A Lovely Game - Give It A Try! - Avenge your Empress! You take on the role of Corvo, the Empress' bodyguard. Shortly after returning to the capitol city of Dunwall, the Empress is assassinated and Corvo is framed for the crime. I've played the first three (instruction) levels. Set in an alternate reality, Dishonored features an environment seemingly plucked out of the industrial revolution; Dunwall is populated with technology, magic, and the Plague. Dishonored is a first person perspective stealth game with minor elements of role playing games (RPGs). One of the best aspects of this game is that you are not required to take lethal actions! First Person Elements: 1. Lethal a. Swordplay and Crossbow/Pistol: You may carve or shoot your opponents as fast as you can swing the sword or shoot your crossbow/pistol. There is a counter-fighting system in place: if you time your sword block correctly, you put your opponent into a stun status. A stunned opponent can be finished with a single, lethal strike! 2. Non-Lethal a. Take downs: from behind, you may use a rear naked choke hold to knock someone out. b. Pickpocketing: from behind, you may pick items (coin pouches, keys, etc.) from non-player characters (NPCs). 3. Non-combat: a. Magic: these are support abilities that give you advantages over the environment (e.g. Blink - a short range, line of sight teleport) or an opponent (e.g. Darkvision - allows you to see opponents through walls and where opponents are looking). RPG Elements: a. Upgrading your equipment (mask, crossbow, pistol, etc.) b. Upgrading your magical abilities (blink, dark vision, vitality, etc.) Items you can pick up or interact with are generally highlit in some fashion, either in white or yellow. You can save at almost any time, and the game autosaves at certain key points. Dishonored gives metrics on your activities: how often you're seen or leave evidence of your actions, how many people you've killed, how many coins you've collected, etc. The gameplay mechanics are smooth and easy to grasp. When new abilities are introduced, the game pauses and the player is presented with illustrations and written instructions on how to utilize a new ability. The instructions are available for review from the pause menu. There are some scenarios where you can do many things at once. For example, you can sneak up behind 2 guards, pick the 1st guard's pocket, choke him out, catch his body, then stow the unconscious guard in a dark corner, all while the 2nd guard is warming his hands over a barrel fire! From there, you can choke the 2nd guard out or sneak past him. Sight and sound are important in the game: as long as your body is completely behind an object, you can lean your head out and the enemy will not see you. Moving while in stealth mode renders you completely silent, but you move slowly. You can throw certain objects to distract enemies or you can wait for the right moment to ambush an enemy. The "Death from Above" move allows you to fall down onto an opponent; if you press your sword attack button right before impact, you will instantly kill your target and take no damage from your fall. Once you gain magical abilities, powers like Blink will open up more opportunities to handle a situation. Dishonored is a game with interesting mechanics and beautiful art assets. There are multiple ways to achieve your goals, but you must be patient. This is definitely NOT a game you want to rush through and try to take on multiple opponents at once: you can easily be overcome by multiple opponents attacking simultaneously. New players will be able to learn to play this game easily. The pace is slower, as this is a game of patience and planning. This is a straight up revenge story, but how you execute that revenge is up to you. I recommend this game!
Review: Great game, wonderful world! - I just got through with my third playthrough of Dishonored. I played once going full stealth, no kills. Once with kills but still full stealth, and the last game I played full stealth, no kills, and not using any but the initial supernatural ability you are given. Each time was fun! I love the world this is set in. As dirty, dark, and disgusting as it is (swarms of rats, plague victims that wander around like zombies, spewing bloody vomit, dead bodies piled up, dirt and grime on everything) it is absolutely beautiful in its own way. There are so many ways to approach every objective that you can easily play the game multiple times and not go about it the same way twice. Especially interesting to me is the "chaos" mechanic. The more people you kill or the more you are noticed by enemies the higher your chaos level is. In addition to changing the overall story, making it far darker at the end, it also changes aspects of the gameplay. There are more guards and they are more alert to your movements. There are more swarms of rats that can attack you, and more plague sick "weepers" who will also attack you. To anyone worried about how this game plays on the PS3 after some of the woes of Skyrim, fret not. For one, this game wasn't developed by Bethesda, it was developed by Arkane and published by Bethesda. Secondly, this game uses the Unreal engine, which has been used for other games on the PS3 with no problem. I ran across very few glitches, and the occasional glitch I found wasn't game-breaking. The story itself won't be listed as one of the most memorable or epic ever, but the world and immersion it generates is what give this game it's oomph. Well done, Arkane!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great First Person Game Even for Non-FP Gamer
*by M***P on March 11, 2013*

Great graphics, bone-chilling score and sound effects, great storyline, interesting and sometimes creepy characters makes for one fantastic game. I don't play any FPS, so this is my first "first-person" game, as I only (and I mean only) play third-person action/adventure games. So if you're like me, don't shy away from this game! I took the stealth route, which required an immense amount of patience as I tend to be a completionist and wanted to explore every cranny. Kind of hard when you need to stay hidden and you don't know where anything is, so that was probably not the best decision. Also, there are some frustrating aspects of the game, like Corvo doing something you didn't intend him to do, but I chalk that up to me sucking more than the game controls itself. Nonetheless, none of that mattered, as I thought the game was excellently written and executed, and I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay. I love this game!!! The fact that you can replay missions and not replay the whole game in sequence is a nice feature, too.
