This thermoregulation system is completely waterproof and will continue to provide heat for up to 18 hours. It is made from a highly breathable, super soft four way stretch nylon/lycra fabric to prevent chafing and is extra long to prevent ride-ups. In addition, it is treated with Durable Water Repellent to help it shed water and sweat allowing you to stabilize your body temperature quickly and maximizing the effectiveness of the external heating elements. I've used my Neptune system several times during the cold and have no issues. Normally the chemical heaters are deactivated if water is encountered, however this system has solved for that and allowed me to keep moving with six warm heaters while constantly being in and out of water in a 24 hour Endurance race.
