From this point on, Leonard becomes obsessed with revenge on the hitman - code name: Golgo 13. Dawson spares nothing to enlist the CIA, FBI, and U.S. military in an unrelenting manhunt for his son's killer. As Golgo's survival depends on stopping Dawson himself, the hunter and the hunted chase each other in a breathless game of kill or be killed.

Review: "A Man DEVOID of Human Sentiment......" - For its time, this is a CLASSIC. Even for these days, in my humble opinion, this is still an entertaining movie. Made in 1983, Golgo 13 is an animated film based off the popular Japanese comic book character of the same name. The original comic debuted in a Japanese magazine in 1969. This should clear up misconceptions and assumptions when some "uninformed" people say that this animated film is some type of rip off of "Leon: The Professional", "The Bourne Identity", "The Punisher" etc..... Golgo 13 clearly was created in 1969 so this proves that the film is not any type of rip off. It started in 1969 and has sold over 200 million copies over its time. There's even been two live action movies made and one Nintendo video game based off this popular character. Now on to the review: The movie itself is not the greatest action film ever made nor is it the greatest animated film. Don't go into this movie expecting "The Lion King" or "Princess Mononoke." However, the movie has some good action sequences, detailed artwork, and a decent plot. In my opinion this is simply a movie that aims to entertain. Its focus is NOT to make the viewer try and "think." An example of movies requiring the viewer to think too much would be films like "Ghost in the Shell" or "Akira", or even "Perfect Blue." This however seeks to entertain and bring Duke Togo's character to life in animated format. Even though the film is not rated, the movie is absolutely for mature audiences. It definitely would get an R-rating if it was submitted to the MPAA. There is violence and sex and therefore, if either of those components offends you then you might want to look elsewhere for entertainment. Over all, I found this timeless classic to be entertaining for both fans of the original comic book series as well as still entertain those who are new to this character.
Review: A TRUE CLASSIC - There is nothing, absolutely nothing, about this movie that I didn't like. This movie is unparalled in many aspects from plot to script and to action. If I had to liken the main character of this movie to anything else then I would have to say he's a mix between James Bond and Leon (from The Professional with Natalie Portman) but even that is a discredit to him. This movie is full of twists and turns and constantly hits you with unexpected developments. There will be characters in it that you love, that you hate, and some that you just feel sorry for. You may even shed a tear or two for the villian. Expect to enjoy every minute of this movie from start to finish and expect the suspense and action to hold up 'till the last second. The movie starts off with action and ends with a surprising plot twist that'll make you want to watch it all over again with your new found knowledge. DO NOT EQUATE THIS MOVIE TO ANYTHING YOU'VE SEEN IN QUEEN BEE. Queen Bee doesn't even begin to compare to this movie and it's very existence does this movie a great dishonor. Do not use that as a basis for deciding whether or not you'll want to watch this one. If you don't give this movie 5 stars, then I don't know what you're looking for.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Interesting for a non-anime fan like me
*by J***S on August 11, 2008*

Just for the record, I'm not a huge anime fan. I'm not a manga fan either. Not that I am against either of these art genres, it's just that I never had the time or the money to dedicate to getting into them. That being said, I've been fascinated by Golgo 13 since I played the original NES game and its sequal. To this day, my friends and I use, "I need a custom M-16, one with electric percussion and push button style" and "..." as an IM response as an inside joke. Once a year or so, I consider getting some of the Golgo 13 books to see what it was like. I finally tried buying this movie. I've never read the books, just played the video games. I liked this movie a lot. The weakest part was the opening credits, it looked like a bad 1980's heavy metal video combined with bad 1980's CGI. The music was also a bit cheesy. Outside of that, the artwork throughout the film was good looking and maintained aa unique style. Unlike the handful of anime films that I have seen (Akira, for example), the plot did not devolve or get super-confusing. Indeed, it was an extremely straight forwards plot. It did have a twist, but I guessed the twist fairly early on. Nevertheless, the film was still quite enjoyable. The action sequences were very well done and could be followed. The bad guys were all quite devious and did not sink to the levels of threadbare archetypes like you see in a lot of films. There were even a few scenes that I was disturbed by, which is fairly unusual and shows that the film really packed an impact that few films do. Overall, I liked this film a lot. If you are a fan of Golgo 13, or looking to learn more about the character or the series, I recommend this film. J.Ja
