## Description

The newest installment in the biggest action series of all time and the follow up to last year's blockbuster Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops launches on November 9, 2010.

Review: **UPDATED** Great shooter. Worth the price of admission - **UPDATE** The game was patched within 24 hours and online is very smooth with the occasional stutter. I have not had one crash. Graphics are beautiful, and the variety of weapons available to you once you level up are fantastic. In my honest opinion, all the 1, 2, and 3 star reviews were unwarranted in light of how the game plays today Nov. 14th. It is simply an undeniably fun and smooth online experience. I originally rated 4 stars at launch, but recent improvements have warranted another star. I'll start off by saying that I have only played multiplayer, and only for around 3 hours. -Though a bit laggy at times, I found this game to be completely playable. And not anywhere near MW2 for me. -Friend invites that you used to have to tab out of game to send on the Steam interface have now been incorporated into a menu in-game. Thank Christ! This was a major pain in the ass in MW2. It seems that all you need for interaction with your clanmates is within the game menus, including your master list of friends and whether they're online or not. -The devs have clearly spent ALOT of time working on the level design, and I find them to be utterly enjoyable with a great balance of larger med-long range engagement maps and smaller frenetic run 'n gun that the Rambo types love. -I like the combination of having to level grind AND buy new weapons and loadouts. I think it adds something different. -Although I have only leveled up to 8, I'm looking forward to the avatar customization available to the higher levels. I think it's cool that you can more or less know who it is that you're killing, or being killed by. Adds a personal element to the MP frenzy. -Dedicated servers. 'Nuff said. They missed the boat on this one last go around. -The graphics are good, though I think they were a little more slick visually in MW2. I'd put them on par with WAW, and that ain't too shabby. -The weapons so far are awesome with a great variety of new weapons not seen before (to my knowledge) in a shooter. And the supply of rockets and nades for the tubers is finite, thank god! -I am not sure why this game is currently rated so low. To be honest, it's pretty darn good on release, which virtually never happens, so in my book, as they continually patch it and add a mod kit to the mix(hopefully). it can really only get much better. Worth a try in my book!
Review: Huge leap, for a grittier CoD - Treyarch has had a hit or miss history as far as game development, ranging from abysmal to pretty darn good. Black Ops is the first game that Treyarch has had the luxury of focusing the entire team on development. With Modern Warfare 2 now behind us, Black Ops had a lot to live up to, including making the community happy, who were slowly getting more enraged as support for MW2 fell to the wayside with the dissolve of Infinity Ward heads West and Zampella. (Want proof there is no more support? The Rock Glitch still exists in Fuel.) Well, Treyarch has kept to their promise and more with this incredible installment of Call of Duty. MW2 still chooses to take the lightened hardcore route by focusing on the combat storyline, less on the gritty realism and horrors of war. Treyarch skillfully uses actual history to craft a fictional progressive and hidden set of wars that are known as Deniable Operations, fighting behind the scenes to prevent full scale wars. You will see some familiar faces from history, use weapons that were only a dream to America's Military back then, see bits and pieces of "Deniable Ops", and unfold the era in a way only the Call of Duty name can bring. Longtime CoD fans will find that, awkwardly, you never leave Mason's boots, he is your character, AND, he speaks, instead of being quiet, he will call when reloading, tossing a grenade, and generally has a personality. Graphically, it's a small improvement over the engine IW used in MW2, the sound still pops with every shot, cracks with every boom, and brings you face first into the gameworld. Edit: I don't know what I was thinking here, you DO leave Mason, I guess I was overly tired from playing the game...oops. Treyarch really went all out with this set, an all-star cast of voice talent lends to the astounding atmosphere, Gary Oldman reprises his role as Reznov, who some of you know was the sniper from the Russian portions of World at War. Topher Grace, Ed Harris just to name a few. You will not be dissapointed in your purchase of this game. Understanding that this will become a yearly turnaround for Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and beginning in 2011, Sledgehammer games has announced they are working on a CoD Action-Adventure style game. Take from it what you will, but if IW is not going to be a full strength for the 3rd Modern Warfare installment, Treyarch talent has proven themselves ten-fold. I cannot comment on the online aspect, I am currently deployed to Iraq, and am unable to play online. However, split screen works well, and its a party and a half when people get together. Zombies make a triumphant return, no need to elaborate there for people with the Hardened or prestige edition. So why are you reading this to the end? Rent it, buy it, download it from Steam, find a way (legally!) to play this game. **Update** Took the time to play with the RC-XD a bit, the car sucks battery life bad, I would say total usage has been under an hour, and the battery life looks pretty limp already, and normally I turn it on, check battery life on the screen, and shut the screen off, it seems to prolong it a bit, but last time I fired it up, I was showing one bar left, and I just put the batteries in there two hours prior. Wonder if anyone will do a 9v conversion. But considering it's mostly for show, I am not that heartbroken. Still cannot get online, I am in Iraq, and even with the improved net connection, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get online. (Imagine my frustration when I saw that damn download code for the extra maps!)
