    A Must for Every Patent Practitioner

The "Practitioner's Guide to the PCT" is a must for everyone who hopes to practice patent law because almost every business entity engages in international trade where patent rights are a must. Filing a PCT application buys your client around 30 months to decide what countries to file for individual nation patent protection. Every clients will want more time to decide forcing you to learn and utilize the PCT system. As of 2016, the current version of the  "Practitioner's Guide" is still a good guide despite its 2013 copyright date with the exception of the number of international search authorities (ISAs) and international preliminary examining authorities (IPEAs) has increased.I bought the "Practitioner's Guide" because I am a lawyer studying for the patent bar exam and reading the MPEP Chapter 1800 did not provide me with clear understanding of the PCT process despite my experience as a patent examiner or my patent bar review course. The  "Practitioner's Guide" provided me with clear and explicit explanations of how the PCT process works. The PCT rules are explained in simple terms and multiple examples walk you through the complicated process. (They don't call it the Patent Confusion Treaty for nothing.)However, the  "Practitioner's Guide" does a lot more than walk you through the PCT process. The  "Practitioner's Guide" gives practical advice for filing in Europe, Asia, and even finding foreign associates to represent you in when you have to chose in 30 months the nations you want patent protection. A suggested guide to writing a "global patent application" is made to reduce prosecution costs and the first clear explanation of the patent prosecution highway system is provided. Finally, the  "Practitioner's Guide" provides you with a summary of all the critical WIPO resources to help you write and prosecution a PCT application.I found the  "Practitioner's Guide" a refreshing fast read and very useful. The information explaining PCTs is not readily available anywhere else to my knowledge. Trust me when I say you don't want to have to go to the MPEP PCT chapter 1800 because the current version is not very clear.
