That was OK, since I used it mainly to import music into iTunes, and so I hardly ever wanted to play music from the CD. Well, when that broke down, I got this one, figuring it was more or less a commodity. Well shiver me timbers! This one is quiet! I hardly can tell if the music is playing through iTunes or from the CD but for the little yellow light on the front. It is not silent--there is some mechanical spinning and seeking noise, and I wouldn't use this drive for listening--but it doesn't drown out the music.One point that might be an issue: it does not work connected to the powered USB hub that I used for the old drive, so I have to plug it in directly to the computer.
