I have this toy and my baby loves it. My only thought, is the paint non-toxic?** A: I'm not sure if the paint is toxic or not, however I believe it wouldn't be toxic. Plus, my baby licked, chewed, & any other possible way she could get it in her mouth & she is perfectly fine. I wouldn't worry about it it is a babies toy for goodness sake **Q: How can you be sure that the wooden balls won't pop off while teething? They are the exact size that could make a baby choke!** A: They don't pop off. Like some of the other comments have said, I can only tell you from experience. And that I had the same reservations. They were very popular around the neighborhood with many of us having kids around the same time. I was lucky enough to have many people to ask and see so many babies play with them first. There was never one issue. Not one. My daughter is now 24 years old. This is my go to gift for babies. As I'm writing this, I just got one for my sister who is due next month. And I'm getting her an extra one for her 6 year old. Technically it's "to have around the house" because the nearly seven year old wouldn't feel good about me buying her a "baby toy". But I know that she'll end up playing with it constantly (as you might) because it's also the ultimate figit toy. I recommend the classic dark and light primary color one over the rest. The way vision develops, dark and light (also red) comes before the ability to distinguish other colors. So the original is really stimulating in that way. The dark and light wood makes sense for that very early vision development, but the classic primary colored version also has that variation between dark and light. I have know idea why the plain and pastel versions even exist. Also, don't be quick to get rid of it when it's time to get rid of the other teething toys and rattles. It's so much more than that. The form captures the imagination. It also helps to develop fine motor skills. Then later, tossed on a shelf or in a toy box, it'll become popular with your kid again at different stages of development and incorporated into play in different ways. As I said earlier, adults end up picking it up from time to time. You'll see what I mean when you get it. **Q: How do you clean this toy? I given this toy by a friend and want to give it a thorough clean before giving it to my teething baby.** A: Interesting question. We were given some Brio trains that were in long term storage and we are questioning how to clean them. The materials are similar to the Skwish toy. My current research suggests either boiling in water for ten minutes or spraying on a 1/2 water/1/2 distilled vinegar solution. The second sounds like a better choice for the Skwish since it has the rubbery cords that might be damaged by high heat. Good luck. They can snag it in sidelying and transfer it hand to hand when lying on their backs. Very engaging. Used one in my therapy practice for years and bought ones for each of my newborn grandchildren.
