Good idea, bad execution. Poor quality control

*by T***D on Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2015*

I've had these for four days and have been testing them. The flashlight; this came as a package deal with the lantern. But I also bought a two pack on another Amazon deal. One of them came with a dead backup battery. The other did not charge when exposed to light. The red light is suppose to come on indicating charge, and it did not. I tried to take the battery from the non-charging one to put into the one that did charge but had the dead battery. But after I unscrewed the end cap, I found the brass insert was dented so I could not get the batteries out. So these two samples suffered from bad quality control. The one that came with this set had charged backup batteries, and the solar charger worked. My testing was to run them down to very dim. I charged them for a full day (cloudy weather) and got about 5 minutes of light equal in brightness to the battery. I charged it for two days (one day cloudy, one day sunny) and got 15 minutes of light equal to the battery. The quantity of light was quite usable. In a completely dark basement you could see your way around. But two days for 15 minutes is not a good ratio. The Lantern; the design is quite good, but the execution and quality control are problems. The rubber casing gets in the way of plugging in a usb connector properly. And in fact, in this case usb charging does not work. The indicator light does not come on. While charging on solar the indicator light does come on, but it apparently does not charge too well. I Out of the package the solar battery was fully charged and gave about 2 hours of light equal to the backup battery. I charged it for a day but the light was as dim as it was before charging. I charged for two days and it got better but it never got a bright as the backup battery . I contacted the manufacturer about it not charging on USB, they replied with a question asking am I referring to the the lantern or the flashlight. I explained the situation to them as I recounted here. They are going to send me new ones. According to a spec sheet the seller sent me I am suppose to get 8 hours of light on a full charge. I will get them when I get them.I will say though the manufacturer will back their product.

This light if great. Love that it is solar powered

This light if great. Love that it is solar powered. I bought it for emergency purposes. I keep it sitting in the kitchen window so it is always fully charged. When storms come & i lose power I turn to the handy light. It give me light and I can keep my cell phone charged up so I can report power loss to the utility company and have even used t he usb port to use my laptop to check the progress of the storm etc. I will be buying more. I want one for the basement and my bedroom. Highly recommend this product.

I admit I love anything that charges with solar power

*by C***S on Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2015*

I admit I love anything that charges with solar power, so getting this lantern was a natural. I've charged it through my window, and in a dark space it gives off ample light. The USB port for charging phones, etc, is a great feature. It's smaller than it appears in the photos but it's also extremely light in weight. It could be lashed to the back of a pack to charge while hiking, and be ready for you when you stop. Good idea for emergency kits also. I plan to throw it in my suitcase when traveling, can't hurt and might come in handy. Very cool little lantern.
