The fan is an added bonus Review: Functional, but mediocre quality - I am very pleased with my purchase of this product. I wanted an inexpensive but functional external housing for my full height 5.25" optical drive. I also needed a unit operated by a separate power supply as the computer this will connect to does not have USB 3.0. This unit satisfied my needs and lets me connect to my drive as needed. While I can appreciate the comments of several other posters about poor quality, my sample is sufficiently functional for my purposes - I was able to install my drive in the unit, connect the cables, and read data from a few optical discs (CD, DVD, BD). I did note that the connectors are all of poor quality so I will try not to move them around much or cycle the connections too many times. Also, while there is a fan, there is no obvious vents to allow air to actually flow; the seeming result is that the fan only serves to pressurize the housing and make noise. If I notice the unit getting hot, I may cut some vents of my own; if not, I may disconnect the power to the fan to reduce the noise. I have not yet tried to burn a disc. I wanted an inexpensive but functional external housing for my full height 5.25" optical drive.
