## Overview

The Odenta Tachi is a meticulously crafted samurai sword featuring a 28-3/4” folded steel blade made from premium 1050 and 9250 steel. Its distinctive Toriizori curve and visible hamon temper line showcase traditional forging techniques. Adorned with gold and silver floral mountings and balanced at 2.8 lbs, this sword comes complete with a lacquered saya, metal hangers, and a stylish carrying bag—perfect for collectors and enthusiasts seeking authentic samurai heritage.

## Description

The beautiful deep curved blade is 28-3/4” long and is slightly over ¼” thick (.276”) near the guard. The blades curve is called Toriizori a is where the center of the curve is close to the middle and measures 1-3/8”. Two types of steel were used designated 1050 and 9250. Laminations were produced by folding and fusing the two steels together at a very high temperature. The said laminations are visible and also the hamon/temper line. At the base of the blade is a brass habaki / sleeve with channels on the side. A Moko style tsuba/ guard is used with raised floral designs on the rim in gold and silver color. Large four lobe spacers flank the tsuba. The 10-1/2” handle has a slight curve at the back. Same floral designs are found on the fuchi & kabuto-gane or ferrule & pommel cap on the handle. Same / ray skin is used under the brown ito/lace wrapping with long gold color dragon menuki/ornament. Handle is pegged in two places with bamboo. There are two metal ashi / hangers on the saya /scabbard with nice gold colored dog-like figure on one side and silver color on the other side. The koiguchi / band at the mouth of the saya , the metal ring and scabbard tip are all of the same design. The black lacquered saya has a the same brown ito wrap as the handle. Tachi is a sword used by the samurai prior to the coming of the katana. It is carried hanging like most cavalry swords with the blade facing down inside the scabbard. Unlike the katana where the blade is facing up and the scabbard is slipped inside a waist band.
