The opener is very old and not compatible with any of the "Keypad" type access controls available. Using a key switch makes exterior access to the garage very easy. Since the signal is low voltage, I expect the switch to last a long time, and the supplied mounting plate was a perfect replacement for the previous switch, which finally gave up after 40 years. Very good value and is well built. Be advised the switch is essentially a single-pole, double-throw type switch, so use a DVM to determine which set of contacts you will need. You have to remember that this switch when used for a garage door needs to be turned to on and then turned back to off to remove, otherwise you might mess up your opener. You could turn it to on and then remove the key, you don't want to do that.
