A: No.  Not because of the 20v clamping voltage, but because of the avalanche energy.  I believe you're using as a clamp for a 'load dump transient based on your question.  A zener of this size will tunnel then avalanche in the millijoule range or smaller.  Go for the larger TVS (transient voltage suppressor).

**Q: Will this work for a 5 watt solar panel to a 12v sla battery?  wanting to stop it from draining the battery at night.**
A: Only good for almost 1amp, may limit your change
