It is 5cm thick and flexes between the thumb and finger using a hand at each end, I can imagine the sides bending in or outward when subjected to any weight. I did want to use it as a seat in my campervan whilst holding the magazines, but it is not sturdy enough, but then look at the price. I will keep it for storage, but may need to look elsewhere for rigid sides to sit on.
