Review: Lifesaver (literally!) - Thank God I had this when hot ashes were put in my outdoor compost bin, creating quite a fire. This thing put it out in a matter of seconds-- and it was a pretty big fire. Ordering another one now!
Review: Perfect for most kitchen fires. - This mounts to wall with a black retainer. It's easy to pull out of the mount, but still secure enough to withstand a light impact without dropping the extinguisher. This is rated for grease and electrical fires, and has a feature many small extinguishers lack: a way to check pressure in the form of a little green button that can be depressed. If it pops back up, the charge is still good, and if not, it's time to replace the unit. The extinguisher has enough of a load to handle a pretty good blaze. The scant downsides: Like most small extinguishers, it cannot be refilled after use and will lose pressure over time if used without emptying the contents completely. It's a powder based extinguisher, and the powder is conductive if wet- so it's not going to suppress arcing on wet electronics, and may actually make things worse in that one scenario.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I know there is only a 5 year warranty, but does anyone know how long it can be expected to last & still work?**
A: We have a local free medical clinic that has three 5 pound extinguishers dating to 2013. Our most recent inspection revealed that each had a lable specifying a more involved inspection at the 6 year point. So our fire inspection company took the three back to their lab where (I think) they will do a much more involved inspection of the valve, trigger, contents, etc. Perhaps this is overkill .. I dunno .. but maybe just a pressure guage still being in the green (as my three personal small 30 year old extinguishes shows) is not totally reliable of readiness to use.

**Q: Is this unit the safest for grease fires in kitchens?**
A: Some fire extinguishers have toxic chemicals but this is sodium bicarbonate. It won't poison your kitchen if you use it. I like to keep an open box of baking powder next to the stove as an initial step in case of a grease fire. You can also smother it with another larger pan if the fire is confined to a pan. If that isn't possible, the best method is to take this can and step back a few feet, then spray the area and it should smother the flames. Don't get too close because the pressure might send the burning grease flying about. I keep a high-pressure fire extingusher in addition to this. But it has toxic chemicals and might splash burning grease/oils.

**Q: Before I purchase this I want to make sure it is safe to use on gas ranges/ovens.**
A: The bottle says BC . Type B is for flammable
Liquids such as gas or oil, type c is for electoral fires. If you want soemthing for grease fire use a type k. Or keep the lid of the pot or pan close to put on it to smother the fire. Different types of fire require different elements of extinguishing it. Saw a comment that said about fire being fire and it should be able to take out all fire. This is wrong. Different types of fire need different types of extinguishing agent the wrong kind could not work or make it worse. Definitely use a type K fire extinguisher

**Q: How is this kitchen rated when its not class k? Class b-c is for flammable liquids and electrical fires. Class k is for grease fires.**
A: Class k is for commercial kitchens. That means large grease fires and industrial hood vent systems. So unless you have a deep fryer at home you probably don’t need class k.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ SMALL BUT MIGHTY - 5yrs later & it worked!
*by P***I on November 24, 2024*

I purchased this in Dec. 2019, yesterday my downstairs neighbor set their oven on fire and I ended up using mine.. so I'm definitely repurchasing because it proved a min 5yr shelf life and it was super easy to use (at 40yo I've only ever used a fire extinguisher one other time) highly recommend. Also SMALL BUT MIGHTY. Not much bigger than some of my water bottles, I've had it on my counter at my last two apartments now because I lost the mounting bracket to the wall of my old house 🤦‍♀️😅
