The waterproof, durable ABS plastic case can hold up to 40 Stormproof Matches (alternate the match tips with some facing up and some facing down) for longer trips for when you need the added security to build a fire. Being able to reliably make a fire is vital for cooking, generating warmth, and in survival situations, making signal fires. UCO Stormproof Matches are perfect for camping, emergency kits, and should be part of every 10 Essentials check list. If a match becomes wet, just wipe dry before use. The overall quality design and reasonable price of the UCO makes this kit suitable for the above and other "mission-critical" applications. The design of case is excellent. A waterproof case is a huge plus for storage. This not only makes the matches waterproof in terms of submersion, but also prevents them from humidity damage. I think protection against humidity damage is even more important, given these products often wind up being stored for years, and how prolonged humidity can make matches useless. The case itself uses a threading that is strong so it does not strip, and is the perfectly sized so that the matches are not crushed but also do not have so much headroom that they can bounce up and down and crack off the starter materials...so these can survive impact really well. The case is textured to get a good grip even when wet or oily, where as an all-smooth case would be very slippery in that scenario. The striker is durable and stands up to the elements -- it also can be changed out when it wears or if it were damaged. Then we get to the matches. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will the matches still work if the striker pad gets wet?**
A: No, but they come with four or five extra strikers. I've never tried to wet a striker and then let it dry out to see if it works again.

**Q: Does it expire? How long is the shelf life before it doesn't spark up?**
A: If the strike pad is inside the container and the container remains sealed, the Match Kit will continue to function well into the next couple of decades.  I have had several similar purchased in the 80's that are still like new.

**Q: are these matches strike anywear matches?**
A: There are no "stormproof" strike-anywhere matches available. However, UCO makes excellent regular strike anywhere matches. With a quick dip in turpentine, nail polish or wax, you can make excellent water-resistant strike-anywhere matches.I also like to include some of the coated strike-anywhere matches with my stromproof matches. This way, should all my strikes become wet, you can use a strike anywhere match to light up a stromproof match!And btw, if you can swing the price, ($28, very reasonable, when you see the quality,) check out K&M matchcases. They're waterproof to 2,000psi, easily open with cold, stiff or injured hands, and have a very high quality button compass installed. I'm tight with a buck, but the K&M's quality is unbelievably high.

**Q: Can you tell me the longest match length this container will hold? Thank you**
A: I just measured the container it is 2 7/8" long so i would say 2 3/4" is the longest length of match you could fit in this container. Hope that helps.

These rock! They are reasonably priced and they perform very well. Matches are a must-have for so many reasons. One of them is emergency preparedness. Nice match set specifically for survival kits, windproof, and waterproof comes with a very nice compact container easy to find due to the color. We recommend everybody have a set in case you do get lost in need assistance with fire building or other things. Overall good value for the cost.
