It has a wide and heavy base that holds the weight of my TV safely. It swivels which is what I needed and love the most. I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the item description before ordering, because I didn't realize that the base is made of glass.When I opened the box, the shipping company had apparently mishandled the package because the glass base had shattered into a thousand pieces. I called the company and they agreed to send me a new glass base, which they did promptly. It was pretty straightforward to put it together, and the stand is really sturdy. The 55" TV I mounted on it sits firmly on the stand (I didn't need to use the stabilizing strap that came with it). I really like the fact that it swivels from left to right and can be mounted at different heights. It's probably a good thing that I had not at first realized that the base is glass as I might not have ordered it.
