It covers so many aspects of car systems. It's not a book that you read straight through, but is a good reference when you come across a car topic that you want to be more informed about. I love all the good diagrams. It's very thorough and all the diagrams are sure to shed light on your car knowledge. Also, I liked the book "Automotive Service: Inspection, Maintenance, Repair" by Tim Gilles. The book by Gilles is less expensive (at least at the time of writing this review), older, but the idea of both books is very similar. The book by Gilles has ISBN # 0-8273-7354-6. I own both of these books, and like them both. Usually, 1 of the 2 books has what I'm looking for when I turn to these books to understand a particular car topic. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shade tree mechanic recommends highly!! *by E***L on Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2013* A very comprehensive primer for today's new systems. Older systems are covered also. For me, a reasonably competent shade tree mechanic, this is continuing education that may help me not to throw up my hands and say I can't work on these new ones! I bought a Bluetooth OBD II reader, (thru Amazon), and Torque Pro (Android app), for my quad core tablet, and now diagnosis doesn't seem so dismal. Really nice to know before hitting the dealership for those jobs I still cannot do.This volume is 2009, so it is not covering newest technology, but my vehicles are older, so I saved a bundle as opposed to the cost of the newest edition.Students might save also...Highly recommended at this price! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Student textbook *by S***S on Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2009* I am just a simple guy that is trying to save a little money by repairing my own cars. I've done fairly well so far, so I wanted to try and learn to be a bit more precise in what I do and try to have the knowledge of a mechanic while still keeping my day job. I found that this book really fit the bill.I think it should be mentioned that this is essentially a student textbook, with review questions and a point of view that you're working towards becoming a mechanic after "graduating". Considering that I never took an automotive class while in high school, this was perfect for me. However, this information might be overly simplistic to someone else that may have had prior training. Since I don't know what all the tools and parts are called, this was perfect. What anyone can appreciate is the high quality of the glossy pages and vibrant color of this textbook format.
