Works well once you know how to maintain them

We use the MAF1 Super Wick Aircare filters in our MA1201 Aircare Humidifier. We love the humidifier. It does an excellent job. However, we struggled with the filters, replacing them after only 1 week of use, which had become very expensive. After contacting the company, we learned that water that runs through a softener creates problems, so we switched to non-softened water. That seemed to lessen the build-up that renders the filters useless. What works for us now is that we have three filters that we rotate. We pull one out of the humidifier after 7 days of operation, soak the crusted portion in vinegar for at least an hour and spray vinegar on other parts as needed. Meanwhile, we wipe out the humidifier and put a clean, DRY filter in the humidifier. We found that if you clean and rinse the filter then put it immediately back into the humidifier, it will “droop,” rendering it ineffective. So, once I’ve soaked the filter and rinsed it out, I hang it to dry, and use it the next time I do this process. It seems to work like new, as long as it is dry when you install it in the humidifier. I clean and rotate filters once a week, and, so far, we are enjoying humidified air just like we do when we install a brand new filter.

the humidity gets pretty low and things dry out

*by E***S on Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2018*

I use this for my Sears humidifier. During the winter when we run the heater a lot, the humidity gets pretty low and things dry out. I like to get two of these for the winter. I also use the Golden Solutions Bacteriostatic Humidifier Water Treatment with these. That keeps things from stinking and keeps the hard water in check. I'm pretty lazy, so I only clean the unit out when changing these and at the end of the winter/spring when putting it away. Using the treatment each time I fill up (once at night and once in the morning running 24x7) these humidifier filters hold up. I might rotate them after awhile before tossing. So maybe 30-45 days, I'll flip it since these seem to lose their effectiveness, but I'm too cheap to replace monthly (when running these as hard as I do). So for me, two lasts good enough. I'm in northern VA, and I only turn my humidifier down or off when it rains and the house gets humidity from the outside. The polar vortexes have been kinda rough. The mild February means I don't run this as hard either, but this year, it was colder in March so I ran these until the beginning of April.

This replacement wick is a joke and was like a wet noodle after one day!

*by R***G on Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2018*

After one day the wick was like a wet noodle. It was all collapsed and non functional. This the second wick we have used. The wick that came with the AIRCARE Model MA1201 humidifier by Essick Air Products worked well for a month. It held it's shape and functioned well. We were satisfied with the original but the replacement is a joke.I tried another one of these and it was fine. (added April 10, 2018)Updated April 28, 2018. We have ordered and used 4 of these replacement wicks now. Three have been great and one failed after one day. Maybe it was a bad batch. Overall we have been very happy with this wick. They seem to last for about 1 to 1 1/2 months for us.
