I went full old school and treated them with Sno-Seal and put red laces on like we did back in the day. I’ve tried the new backpacking boots/shoes and they’ve struck me as glorified tennis shoes. They don’t seem to offer the same support and I got tired of feeling every rock on the trail poke into my feet. In my mind the new boots/shoes have one advantage; they’re light. Well, that’s all fine-and-good until you twist your ankle or have a stone bruise. I’ve hiked Zion National Park and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. These boots did not disappoint! Fit great. Great quality full grain leather uppers and nice interior lining. A very competitive option to Danner's at 1/4 the cost for those of us not planning to hike the full Appalachian trail any time soon. No tongue bite issues as some reviews described. Wish they came in a wide, but the medium width still fits, just more supportive feeling. Love look and feel of real leather and the sew on welt style sole . Had too many glued on Dual Density type Soles detach/dry rot in less than 2 years with uppers in perfect condition to ever buy again.
