Also, I like that the perch is removable so you can use the scale to weigh other things like their food. I know this scale is accurate because I had just recently had him weighed at the vet and it was right around the same number. The only downsides to the scale are that first, it doesn't have a "zero" button so if you want to zero out the scale you have to turn it off and put the item you don't want to be weighed already on it before you turn it on. Her color mutation isn't common at least where I reside and because of that there wasn't much knowledge of her particular mutation as far as whether or not they are smaller than a traditional GCC etc. Most GCC are about 60-85 grams full grown but the highest her weight would go was 58g. I purchased a jewelry scale so we could move items her weight after we brought her home to make sure she was thriving and nit losing any weight. BUT we couldn't get her to stand on it or any other scales because let's be honest to a bird something like that could be pretty scary. Weighing your feather babies is important so my husband and I started searching for a scale and I found this one and figured I would give it a try and the minute I put it together she had ZERO problems stepping up. It is as accurate as the scale they weigh her on at the vet and idk about anyone else but not only do i suck at putting things together but I get frustrated before I finish haha the stand is so easy to put together my 6yo son was able to do it. I have an African Grey and that's the largest size Parrot which I'd use it for. **Q: Will this scale work for an Amazon Parrot?** A: I believe the paperwork says it can handle up to 5,000 grams or 11 pounds, well above what a large parrot would weigh. I use it for my 90 gram cockatiel. Just FYI, I have to agree with some other reviews that said upon receipt, the scale was stuck in error mode. Mine was as well but the company immediately replaced it and the new one has worked wonderfully. You can use the perch or not, depending on how comfortable your bird is on flat ground. Mine would not use the perch OR the flat area until I put a small towel over the flat surface. That evidently was adequate in his mind! The scale will adjust with anything you put on it so the weight shows as accurate no matter which way you use it. **Q: how many pounds does this scale weigh pets up to?** A: It is a scale for birds. Weighs up to 10 lbs. **Q: Can the largest dowel be put at the top** A: I do not use the perch. I am a wildlife rehabilitator and use the scale for squirrels and rats and mice. (Be aware that this scale is too small for large birds like macaws and cockatoos.) The description on the item page says it needs 9V batteries, however the scale I received only required 2 AAA batteries. The included perch needs assembly, however it took only a few minutes and fit together nicely with the scale.
