The Twidec NJK-5002C Hall Effect Proximity Sensor is a compact, metal-bodied inductive switch designed for precise metal detection up to 10mm. Review: Proper orientation of magnet… - There is a correct way to orient the Manet to the sensor. A review was written using a ferrous magnet and the orientation of the magnet was incorrect. The field of the magnet is weakest on the side and therefore would reduce the ‘sensitivity’ of the sensor. If they would have used either flat side of the magnet the field strength would increase and the detection distance would have been greater. In addition, a neodymium magnet has a higher field strength than a ferrous based magnet thereby increasing the detection distance. These devices have about a 10mm ( ~3/8”) detection distance maximum. I have used these in several applications using a neodymium magnet and run about a 5mm (~3/16”) gap. Works great on the application running around 1,000 RPM. So take it for what it’s worth, a great little sensor package. WORD OF CAUTION: This sensor is sensitive tp the magnet orientation. North versus South Pole. The magnets are NOT market and the only way to know which side of the magnet will cause the sensor to trip is to hook one up and check the light on the back of the unit. You only need to hook up BROWN to Positive and BLUE to Negative. Use a small 12 VDC battery and pass the fat side of the magnet close to the sensor end. If the light on the back does not come on then flip the magnet over and try again. Verify which side of the magnet will cause the sensor to 'trip' and mark it so you know which side to present to the sensor.
Review: works with RacePak data logger - I am using this with a RacePak Sportsman data logger. So far it is working fine reading my driveshaft RPM. The one thing that screwed me up is the wire they call brown actually looked red to me.

**Q: is this omnipolar, unipolar or bipolar?**
A: Unipolar only

**Q: Can this sense a strip of magnetic tape?**
A: Theoretically yes, if it's the proper polarity as this only detects a single polarity and ignores the other.

**Q: Is there any reason why this would not work with an ebike controller in place of the typical external hall speed sensor?**
A: This is just on/off, I suspect the hall speed sensor is more complicated than that. But if you're replacing a single on/off sensor, and can provide the proper power to it... and the controller only needs the single signal wire... it may work.

**Q: Is the provided magnet necessary to register a reading?  What is the detection distance when working with materials such as aluminum and steel?**
A: This can only sense the magnet
