## Description

Joanne Shaw Taylor has spent the spring writing and recording her fifth studio album ‘Wild’ in Nashville and is ready to release it on September 30th. ‘Wild’ will be available in 4 formats: Standard and Deluxe Edition CDs and Heavyweight Black Vinyl and Deluxe Vinyl Double LPs. Recorded at Grand Victor Sound Studios, Nashville TN, ‘Wild’ has been produced by Kevin Shirley (Joe Bonamassa, Aerosmith, Journey, Iron Maiden) and features members of Joe Bonamassa’s band who Joanne met whilst performing with him. Bonamassa has in the past described her as “A superstar in waiting”. British blues star, Joanne says: “Recording at Grand Victor was incredibly inspiring. It is quite the legendary studio. Dolly Parton cut Jolene and I Will Always Love you here. And Chet Atkins worked here. Basically, if there was a hit record out of Nashville, it was made here. I am very proud of this album, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.” Not one to sit around for long, Joanne, is currently on her mammoth US tour and will soon be performing over there as special guest to Glenn Hughes. She returns to the UK for a few summer dates including Glastonbury and The Isle of Wight Festivals and then as special guest to Joe Bonamassa on the ‘A Salute to the British Blues Explosion’ dates before taking on her own headlining tour from 14th October. Hailed by The Sunday Times for her “Killer licks, soaring solos and heart-wrenching vocals”, ‘Wild’ is Joanne’s highly-anticipated follow-up to her 2014 album ‘The Dirty Truth’.

Another belter from JST... she's heading for a huge future!

*by G***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 November 2016*

Joanne has done it again.... another fantastic album. Only 30 years old and has to date produced 5 amazing studio albums, with almost all songs written by her (or in collaboration with others). An amazing guitarist, wonderful voice, and quality and versatile songwriter. The bass and drums on this album are solid and powerful, the production is superb, and Joanne's guitar an voice are as you would expect... great. She pulls endless riffs and grooves galore out of her guitars like the best of them.I love it that keyboards have been brought back in (not used since Almost Always Never), and that there are now backing vocals on some tracks too. There is versatility, powerful rocky tracks, ballads and even a "big band" type offering. If I had to pick out one "stand out" track (there are several!), it would be "Wild is the Wind". A powerful ballad.... and just when you think it has ended..... BAM!!.... back in with one of Joanne's "hairs on the back of the neck" arousing solos! I really, really, hope she includes this one in her live set!A final point....... go for the deluxe addition, as the two bonus tracks are NOT fillers or "also rans". They are as good as the rest, and perhaps should have been included on the standard cd...?

JST hits another career highlight - roll over Beethoven and Bonamassa!

*by D***O on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 January 2017*

Having followed her career from the beginning, this latest release is her best and that is saying something. Channeling influences from a broader spectrum than the Stevie Ray stable, JST is melding more rock influences in Wild. At times reminiscent more of Clapton and Cray than SRV and Hendrix, her guitar sound is really meaty with some thick distortion at times and beautifully recorded. Sounding like she is in the room, the songs range from out and out rockers with incendiary soloing to the beautiful cover of Wild is the wind which builds slowly to a crescendo and the tender love song I wish I could wish you back. My hearts got a mind of its own is much more jazz soul territory with its rolling horn section giving a big band jazz blues BB King feel. To conclude JST is growing as an artist and is learning to use her greatest asset...that smoky voice and stepping back on the soloing. She is the complete package and I cannot think of another guitar player male or female that has the chops, the voice and the songwriting sensibilities at her level now. You might say Joe Bonamassa but I would argue JST sings better!

Great LP (questionable snare production on some tracks)

*by T***T on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2016*

Really like this LP. The songs are very well crafted and arrangements are great. Nice grooves and blues! I take the points of other reviews about being towards middle of the road, but still like it as it is a quality album. The reasons for 4 stars are:1. Annoying production on the snare drum on a number of tracks; far too high in the mix and smacks of the mid to late 80s. This is my view and I understand some would be happy with this style of production.2. 'My heart's got a mind of it's own' has a brass and piano arrangement that isn't really in keeping with the other songs/arrangements and from my point of view disrupts the arc of the album (I have the 10 track version on vinyl). Also the title should use a possessive 'its' rather than the contraction 'it's' in the title (pedantic english 🤔)
