Review: Works perfectly with 32-bit Windows - I was hesitant to choose this printer after reading the mixed reviews, but decided to go ahead with it. So glad I did. For just over $50 it does a fantastic job. I'd speculate that the difficulties other users are experiencing are due to using a 64-bit version of Windows. The computer in our store runs 32-bit Windows Vista, and the drivers installed with no issues. We did have a great deal of difficulty setting our POS software (POSitive for Windows, 2004 version) to print correctly. While it was easy to instruct it to print on the new printer, it does not have any 30-column receipt templates built-in, instead using only the wider 40-column format. Being somewhat tech-savvy, I customized a 30-column receipt template within the POS software to fit our needs. However, the process was very time-consuming. All of this is just due to our POS software being outdated, though - there are no problems with the printer itself. So, just keep in mind that you will probably run into problems if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, and that this printer is 30-column. Yes, the documentation is poorly translated, but you shouldn't need it if you've ever installed even a regular home inkjet printer before. Pretty straightforward. Definitely worth a try, since the next least-expensive printer is $180!
Review: Awesome low cost thermal printer - I ended up using this to hook into an Access Database to print out order receipts for event based sales. After getting the driver to work under Windows 8 which required a bit of messing around, I was printing receipts through Access without a problem. I built a portable point of sale system overnight pretty much using my laptop and this thermal printer. Standard credit card 2.25" thermal paper should work fine in it. You can find a more detailed manual as well as a programming manual for it online, however for the best experience, you should read the one that comes with the package, it is full of great advice like "Users can not make bold to take down printer repair or remake." and "The power adapter to use only the power adapter with random special configuration" (both taken verbatim). I scanned the manual into my computer for archival purposes, as I was unable to find the original gem online, but it was one of the greatest laughs I had in a long time.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cute receipt printer, easy to access from Windows or Linux
*by R***L on April 12, 2013*

I got this as a cheap way to keep a paper log for a python scheduling app I'm writing for our school. 20 years ago I'd have used a dot-matrix paper with fanfold paper, but those seem to have gone the way of the dodo. 32 characters wide is plenty for my needs (timestamp + a short message). Setup is trivial; attach supplied power adapter, plug it into my computer using the supplied USB cable, and give it paper. The sample roll of paper which comes with it is tiny, so I'll be headed to the office supply store soon. It comes with a drivers disk for Windows, including Windows 7. My steps: 1. Install the POS58 driver. Let it install on LPT1. Yaay, there's a printer. 2. Then change the printer port to USB. 3. At this point, I can print to it from WordPad. Just make sure to set the margins to 0". 4. Since I want to send text directly, in printer properties set it to use soft font (and don't beep, and no cash register drawer, and feed 3mm after each print job). 5. Use python with the pywin32 library. Here's how much code it takes: p = win32print.OpenPrinter("POS58") win32print.StartDocPrinter(p, 1, ("TestJob", None, None)) win32print.WritePrinter(p, "Testing 1 2 3\n") win32print.EndDocPrinter(p) On linux, it's even simpler (no surprise). 1. The printer uses a WinBond CDC USB chip, so linux mounts it automatically as /dev/usb/lp0. 2. $ sudo chmod a+rw /dev/usb/lp0 3. $ echo 'Testing 1 2 3' > /dev/usb/lp0 And now I'm happily printing.
