Either the phone would continue to lose power (although slower than if unplugged), or would overheat and stop charging completely. With my new Galaxy S10, which supports 15W wireless charging, and this device which provides 10W, I can fully utilize the phone while charging (although still waiting for some long drives on very hot days to make sure it continues to perform when it gets warm, but that is what AC is for). I like the IR automatic open and close, and the device has a rechargeable battery inside so it does not need external power to open and grab the phone (I have it plugged into an outlet that is only one when the car is running, and I can attach and remove my phone when the car is not on). Battery lasts more than a week idle. I have to unplug it and wait for the battery to die before I can use it again. This is a problem as I depend on it to hold my phone for navigation and it keeps opening and dropping my phone under the brake pedal. After which I usually curse its descendantsand throw it to the back of the car where I can hear it chewing on things for half an hour or so while I drive.
