## Description

Product Description Realizing he could sell more radios by providing quality entertainment, Crosley developed WLW, the world's most powerful radio station. It's rumored that the station could be heard at times as far away as Australia. Crosley's station broadcast a gamut of programming but reached its 500,000-watt peak in 1932 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt first flipped the gold plated switch from the White House to transmit his Fireside Chats. At that time, the impressive Turntable Console CD was a common fixture in homes nationwide. As American as baseball and root beer floats, this furniture styled piece was as functional as it was fabulous. Grand in appearance, and handsome in design the Turntable Console is handcrafted of solid hardwoods and veneers and is the last full size console inspired by an industry giant. This renowned design is true to tradition with an AM/FM radio and three-speed turntable discreetly hidden under the hinge top lid, yet adds a dose of modern technology with a fully functioning CD player. (Compatible with NP1 replacement needle.) desertcart.com The handsome CR44CD turntable console--which also includes a CD player and AM/FM radio--pays tribute to the classic consoles that were common fixtures in Depression-era homes. A must for listening to President Franklin Roosevelt's fireside chats, a Yankees or Dodgers game, or the latest serialized mystery, the consoles featured furniture-like cabinets that fit seamlessly in most living rooms--quite unlike the sleek, high-tech look of modern electronics. The CR44CD fits the same mold, with a cabinet made of handcrafted solid hardwoods and veneers. The grand yet cozy appearance is ideal for homes with traditional furnishings or listeners on a nostalgia kick. Inside the console sits a three-speed (33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm) belt-drive turntable for listening to your favorite LPs, along with a front-loading CD player for enjoying more contemporary formats. The turntable and AM/FM radio are discreetly hidden under the hinged top lid, while the CD player's front slot is subtly integrated within the classic styling so as not to stand out. Feature-wise, the CD player offers a programmable 20-track memory and repeat play (one and all tracks), so listeners can create custom soundtracks for parties or casual listening. The analog AM/FM radio, meanwhile, comes with an external FM antenna to improve reception. Additional features include a diamond-stylus turntable needle and a pair of dynamic full-range stereo speakers. The CR44CD, which sports a compelling oak finish, measures 21 by 36.25 by 13.25 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a 90-day warranty. Review: I love it! - I was worried it was going to show up broken or maybe not working, but it's all perfect. There's not a scratch on it, and the oak is really beautiful. (It looks better than the sales photo.) I can't tell if it's solid oak or just a veneer, but it's nice. It looks real pretty in my living room. I bought mine to play some old 78's that I got at a swap meet, but I'm sure everyone will ask about my Crosley once they see it. I think the front plate is metal instead of plastic, so that makes me feel much better. The radio, CD player, and record player all work well. The glass doesn't appear to be glass. I think it's plastic. (That part I don't like, but I can live with it.) If you're looking for a fancy hi-fi system, then this probably isn't a set for you. However, if you're like me, and you want a little bit of nostalgia, yet you don't want an old tube radio that smells like mold sitting in your living room, you'll probably love this set. I was worried it was going to be a piece of junk, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Actually, I think I love it. The delivery guy who dropped it at my front door, left it sitting upside-down. I guess he can't read because the box clearly has big arrows that say "THIS SIDE UP". I was almost certain something was going to be broken or scratched, but after I got it out of the box, I found it to be in perfect shape. It was packaged inside a bunch of styro-foam, and all the parts that could break from being turned upside down, where either taped in place or they were held down with little pieces twist-tie wire. (Thanks Crosley.) For the price that I got it for here on desertcart, I think it's a steal. I'm sure they are selling these at a loss because I think it's way too nice for what I paid. It probably should have cost closer to the MSRP on the Crosley website. I'm not sure I would have bought one at that price because I was worried about quality, but now that I've got it for less, I feel like I really got a super deal. Again, the sound isn't going to compare to a hi-fi stereo system with large speakers, but for what I was looking for, I love it. I noticed there are jacks for external speakers on the back. Who knows, you might be able to plug those in and make it sound really awesome? For me that doesn't matter. I like it just the way it is. For the price, it's perfect.
Review: Nice stereo - This console came fully assembled and was very easy to hook up. It looks great in our 1930s style home! The record sound quality does not have the scratchy vintage sound that I was hoping for, but it still sounds good. Only drawback is that there are no controls to adjust the audio...treble, bass, etc. It's a great product for the price. We love it!

### ⭐ Don't Buy This
*by H***D on June 2, 2011*

Please don't buy this console. While it looks AMAZING and its sound is even okay provided you don't mind a lack of low end and don't want to listen to heavy metal or the like, it is a piece of trash. The needle is not weighted properly, which means that on any record with a high dynamic of sound, it will skip like crazy. It could play loud records fine and soft records fine, but it could not handle any variance. To add to that, the left speaker on mine shorted out within about 2 weeks of owning the unit. When I called Crosley and spoke with a technician, they said there was nothing to do but to return it, which I have. I will get a different brand, because even if another unit lasted longer than 2 weeks, who knows how much longer than that it will go.
