CE certified pads with a hard shell for the knees. There isn't padding for the hips, but the thickness of the leather and the way the leather is "accordioned" in the hip area gives adequate protection. These pants are absolutely high quality, top grain leather, stitched very well, and undoubtedly durable. I would buy two pairs, but frankly, one does the job. For now. I know I'll end up getting more because they're just so darned good. I wasn't expecting this quality, and the picture does them no justice whatsoever. Get them.
