Great Strap: casual shooting; vertical grips

*by S***H on Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2016*

Really like the wrist strap. I combine the wrist strap with a sling bag. In this case, I use the strap primarily for safety on casual shooting days. The DSLR camera stays in the sling bag until I need it and then I can easily slip on the wrist strap and capture any pictures I desire without fearing I'm going to drop my camera accidentally. At the same time, I don't have to bother with a neck strap. I have very large hands, and still find the BlackRapid strap large enough.I don't think I would recommend this strap to carry a camera around all day long, unless it was a lighter model, My camera is a pretty heavy pro-sumer DSLR (Canon 7D) and the weight would be a bit too much on one's wrist over the course of the day. The strap has no padding. There would be better choices for carrying a camera all day, other than this wrist strap. The BlackRapid strap can be used with or without a vertical grip, which is one of the reasons I chose this model over others that were highly recommended. I sometimes attach a vertical grip to my 7D and this strap will allow one's hand to easily move into any position on the camera. Other straps are only intended for shooting without a vertical grip or they will allow you to attach a vertical grip, but you have to remove your hand from the wrist strap in order to use the vertical grip (in other words, the wrist strap limits you to horizontal shots). As one who likes to switch back and forth between shooting positions, this was a non-starter for me.I also use the BlackRapid Sport Strap when I want my camera at the ready all the time. Typically, I bring one strap or the other, depending on my expectations for the day of shooting. There are a number of straps in the Black Rapid line that use the same camera connector. If I were to do it over again, I would have purchased the version of the wrist strap that came with the FastenR (Black Rapid Wrist Strap with FastenR FR-3). As it is now, I need to remove the FastenR from one of my manfrotto plates or leave the plate on the camera. The vendor was Focus Camera. I used expedited shipping and had no issues.

    Nice Strap

Got this to go as a companion to my BlackRapid Curve neck strap as there are times when I don't really want a strap hanging around my neck. The BlackRapid wrist strap is a good compromise, and a much better idea than holding on to a camera with a longer strap or no strap at all. This guy attaches to the "Fastenr" ring that comes with the Curve or any other BlackRapid strap. The Fastenr DOES NOT come with this wrist strap, so if you do not already have another BlackRapid strap that came with this device, you will need to buy one (about $14).This strap attaches to the Fastenr via a "Connectr", a clip connector. Once connected, part of the connector screws up to lock the clip in place and preventing an inadvertent opening. In addition, this strap comes with the Lockstar clip, a plastic cover that prevents the screw-in portion from backing out (it also provides some scratch protection for the camera). The Lockstar can be difficult to snap into place, but in a month of use I've never had it snap off.The strap itself is made of a cloth-type nylon webbing, an inch wide, and quite comfortable against the skin. The strap is adjustable. I have a medium man hand, and the strap as received needed no adjustment for me. When all the way open, the strap will easily fit a large hand through the opening. For extra security, just tighten the strap once it's on your wrist.Mainly, I use this as a safety net while carrying my camera. When using the camera at weird angles or over the edge of something (such as bridge) or simply one-handed, it gives some assurance that a drop will not be fatal. You do, though, basically lose the use of that hand when using this. The BlackRapid site itself has numerous videos of this strap and other gear if you need more info.

Something I've wanted for a while.

I've been using BlackRapid straps for many years, but have never used a wrist strap until now. There are times when you'll need a camera (or two) slung across your shoulder, and times when it just makes more sense or is more comfortable to hand carry.Sometimes you feel like a strap, sometimes you don't. Almond Joy's got nuts, Mounds don't. Sorry, If you were alive in the 80's, that would make sense :)I used the BlackRapid Wrist Strap on a shoot yesterday. I had it adjusted so I could still slide my hand in and out when needed but tight enough so it couldn't slide off hand if I were to lose my grip.If dropped, the weight of the camera would pull the strap down unevenly, and the friction and your slightly extended thumb when your hand was in open position would make it almost impossible for the strap to slide off. That's how it worked for me and I don't advise that you intentionally let go of your camera or trust your strap based on my experience. If you're a BlackRapid user, you already know that you'll need the FastenR or something similar in order to use this with your camera. It comes with a nice scuff protector to help keep the the metal hook from scratching the bottom of your camera.Cheers!
