I bought the owl to help hide the camera's appearance and distract him with something colorful to look at. In limited use so far, it seems to help. The owl fits nicely over my lens with a 72mm filter size, with the hood attached, with room to spare. I don't use the pop-up flash on my camera, but this product is designed so that it doesn't interfere with the pop-up flash. It does have a small squeaker inside that can be used to draw the child's attention - I haven't found it necessary to use that, but it might come in handy sometime.
