The filter enhances contrast when observing brighter objects including the moon and planets. It also will suppress sky glow from artificial lighting and background glow reflected when the Moon is up. The filter has a mild effect of darkening the background of the night sky so that the fainter objects are more clearly seen contrasted against the blackness of space. The filter will fit all standard sized 1.25" eyepieces and accessories. It is mounted in a nicely anodized housing and is threaded on both sides for stacking with other filters if necessary. The filter effectively filters out selective wavelengths of low-pressure sodium and other man-made sources typically used in street lighting. It enhances the views of deep-sky objects by increasing the contrast of these objects against the background sky. It is not precise in the wavelengths blocked, so more light is cut out than ideal and objects have a decidedly greenish-blue cast. It does darken the sky and increase contrast for bright objects, but blocks out fainter objects. Total attenuation is approximately 30%. The base glass is optically flat and causes no noticeable distortion. It is inexpensive, but accordingly, "you don't get what you don't pay for." ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Could be a five star. *by P***K on Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2019* I’ve had this filter for two months and haven’t had the opportunity to use it. In our part of the country the ultimate viewing time is best part of the country the best time to star gaze is any time but summer. It’s hot and humid and hazy at nite in the summer. What I can tell you is that it arrived in good shape. The filter appears to be substantial. The ring appears like the photo. On the five star scale i’d probably give it a five. I say probably because Amazon clutters up my inbox. So when I review an item I’m honest and I can’t give it a 5 because I was asked too early to make a full review of the purchased item. You need to give location as a factor greater weight in in your modeling. It does well to bring out the details in what I'm observing. Worked really well on the moon. Look forward to using it on planets too. Blocks out excess brightness with dimming what you're looking at.
